Laboratory Research Assistant

The Laboratory Assistant (LA) will be support senior personnel in discovery, preclinical and clinical studies, and the development of the Company’s products. Research projects will cover the discovery process at multiple levels from the identification of novel therapeutic targets to evaluation of early-stage leads in in vivo projects. The ideal candidate has exceptional organizational skills, is self-motivated with a diligent work ethic to keep up in a fast-paced and innovative environment, the ability to precisely follow procedures and instructions, and a passion for conducting reliable, results-driven research that makes a difference. All levels of experience are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities:

Laboratory Procedures: Perform various standard experimental assays including quantitative real-time PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, and ELISA. Work in sterile conditions to conduct cell culture experiments and maintain the growth of cell lines. Express and purify recombinant protein. Collect and analyze generated data. Prepare sterile buffers and media for experiments. Label tubes for specimens collection and update sample inventories.

Laboratory Maintenance: Assist in organization and upkeep of laboratory supplies, workspace, and equipment in line with standard dictated by the leadership. Sterilization of supplies and waste by autoclave. Develop standard operating procedures.

Research Support: Collaborate with PhD-level and other personnel to perform key research activities related to animal experimentation as well as sample collection and data analyses.

Animal Procedures: Conduct various IACUC-approved laboratory animal procedures and techniques for a wide range of projects including but not limited to basic rodent and pig handling, oral gavage, intraperitoneal injection, blood collection, and euthanasia.

Genotyping: Aid in the genotyping process including tag & snip, PCR, gel electrophoresis, documentation of genotypes and strain histories.

Teamwork: Work independently and collaboratively, including managing others in a matrixed environment. Be able to successfully work with other team members in experiments and laboratory upkeep. Act in accordance with Company’s policies.

Communication and reporting: Keep detailed records of all activities, record these activities in ASANA, Google Drive, laboratory notebook, the Colony Management System (CMS), and Labkey. Provide weekly and bi-weekly updates of the research progress to the Scientific Director, research scientists, and Senior Leadership team. Publish original results of research in peer-reviewed, high-impact scientific journals. Maintain the confidentiality of all company deliberations and plans.

Any new responsibilities or changes in the reporting structure as directed by the leadership.

BioTherapeutics Inc (BTI) is a biotechnology company discovering innovative ways to combat a wide array of diseases. Research projects at BTI span multiple indications within the umbrella of inflammation and immunity including inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes, psoriasis, lupus, gastrointestinal infections, asthma, and neurological disease. This position will be involved in preclinical and mechanistic research related to grants funded by NIH as well as internally funded programs.
